Getting excited to start seeding in the greenhouse Getting excited to start seeding in the greenhouse this week. Will pop in radish, kale, and spinach. No need to heat the greenhouse, just cover the rows with poly. There is enough heat in the soil surface for the poly to trap, that the seeds sprout without the aid of a furnace. The end of March I’ll seed Asian greens and lettuce in the same fashion. Start picking salads the beginning of May.
This is what nutrition looks like. If you want tru This is what nutrition looks like. If you want true health, this is where you find it. Perennial grasses are the backbone of local nutrition here on the prairies. Not ready to dive into a grass/alfalfa/clover salad? No problem. There are plenty of animals that gobble these nutrients up and make them available to you in a far more delicious form called meat. Not all meat is created equal though. Most is raised in barns. What you want to adopt is the habit of sourcing grass fed meat, also called pasture raised, grass finished, etc. Not sure if what you are eating fits the bill? Well buying local makes it easy. Any farmer using this approach will be sharing their production techniques on their social media… guaranteed. Look for animals on pasture, and in the case of chickens, birds that are in portable structures, like in slides 2 & 3. Marketing can be misleading, so look for what you see above. Social media is your vetting process. I’m in Saskatoon and Regina regularity if you want to connect.

Baked up some thighs last night. I’ll be in Sask Baked up some thighs last night. I’ll be in Saskatoon this weekend if you’d like to do the same!
Coming into Saskatoon this weekend for deliveries. Coming into Saskatoon this weekend for deliveries. Message or order from my website by noon Thursday for a drop off on Friday/Saturday. #pastureraised In October, when it gets dark early and the owls get aggressive to fatten up for the winter, I feed the birds inside the hoop houses to get them trained to go in at night. Otherwise they prefer to sleep outside and end up getting picked off by Miss Screetchy Pants. Herding chickens anywhere is impossible, so you have to lure them with the chop pail. Kinda how it works with most animals…. Chop pail = compliance.
This here is why they taste so damn good. In addi This here is why they taste so damn good. In addition to the wheat and pea ration I roll them every day, it is the opportunity to eat plants that gives them their texture, their flavour, and their dense nutrient content. This is why all the health gurus recommend eating pastured meats. The minerals that plant is bringing up from deep in the soil is what ultimately gets inside you when you choose pasture raised birds and ruminants. I’m in Saskatoon and Regina every second week for home deliveries. Why not treat yourself right?
Packing orders for both Regina and Saskatoon this Packing orders for both Regina and Saskatoon this weekend. Last deliveries before Christmas. Have lots of large chickens, half chickens, broth packs, and assorted pieces. Check out the website or shoot me a message. Spatchcocked a bird the other day for over the grill. Good times!
